Stuffed & (Un)ready

One more thing in advance of surgery was that they requested I increase my protein intake two weeks before and after. It's supposed to help with healing.

I've never been one to keep track of the macronutrient content of my meals, so when Kathleen and I took stock of what we were eating, I think we were both a little surprised that we did not consume much protein. At least for the time being, we're adding more tofu, more beans, and more nuts, but that's still not going to be enough.

At least not for my specific needs.

So today I found myself in the protein powder aisle at a local drug store and was quickly overwhelmed by the gym bro barrels of the stuff that lined the shelves. Fortunately, I found some reasonably-sized pouches of a vegan one (a must), which I tried when I got home, mixing it with cashew milk.

It was fine. I guess, but between that and a more protein-rich meal tonight, I remain stuffed hours later. I hope I find a better balance because it's uncomfortable physically and emotionally.
